Wattyl recommends that LOSP treated pine be weathered for a minimum of 2 weeks prior to painting to ensure absorption and adhesion. Seek advice from the supplier of pre-primed timbers as many primers need to be painted soon after installation or completely removed prior to painting.

For new and bare timber allow to weather for 4-6 weeks, rinsing with water several times to remove resins and open the grain to aid penetration. Remove mill glaze to allow penetration and adhesion. Mill Glaze is the area on timber that appears smooth and shiny. It is the result of heat and mechanical compression of timber fibres generated from high speed milling processes. If not removed, mill glaze can interfere with adhesion of paints.
